About
Why Vanward exists, and what the name means
Vanward is readiness software for founder-led companies and the finance people who work with them. It keeps the documents investors, boards, lenders and buyers ask for checked, current and ready to share.
Why Vanward
Vanward is an old English word that means toward the front. The van is the leading edge of a column on the move, the part that reaches new ground first and signals back that it holds. A company approaching its first institutional round, its first board, or its first acquirer is in exactly that position: ahead of its own record, asked to prove ground it has only just reached.
That is the job we wanted the name to describe: get the paperwork done ahead of the raise, the board meeting or the sale, so when someone asks, the answer is already on file.
What a cairn is
A cairn is a deliberate stack of stones. On a trail, cairns mark the route where the path is not obvious: across a scree field, over a ridge, through fog. Each one says the same thing to whoever comes next. Someone has been here. This ground holds. The way continues.
That is the metaphor Vanward is built on. Every verified document, every reconciliation that ties, every checklist item you can stand behind is a stone placed on purpose. Put enough of them in order and the people who follow can see the whole path at a glance: founding, seed, Series A, exit. The cairn in our mark is that stack, drawn plainly.
Where Vanward comes from
Vanward is built by people who have done deals at every step of the journey. The team has started four companies, taken one through an exit, and holds several patents. It has consulted on several more exits, taken companies public twice, raising more than $2 billion in those offerings, and led more than $750 million of transactions from the company side: secondary public offerings, strategic acquisitions, family office equity, private equity investment, and seed-stage debt and equity. It has implemented Sarbanes-Oxley controls from the ground up, served on a board through a strategic exit, audited at a Big 4 firm, and run decades of monthly, quarterly, and annual closes as controller, VP of finance, and CFO, full time and fractional, for companies coast to coast.
Across all of it the same question kept arriving from founders and their teams: what do we need to have in place to raise capital, and later, to exit? The honest answer was always a list. Formation documents and operating agreements. Clean financial statements and a revenue recognition policy that holds up. The procedures behind the close. Contracts, cap table, insurance, the things an investor or a buyer asks for on day two. When the CEO of a $60 million company asked what it would take to exit the founder, the answer he got was a spreadsheet of documents to wade through. That was the best tool available, and it was not good enough.
Vanward turns that list into software. It shows a founder what a raise will ask for before the process starts, helps an executive team prepare for a larger round, and gives boards, advisors and investors one place where the documents are current, checked and shareable. Finance teams use the same workspace for the month-end close.
Every checklist item, close step, and tie-out in Vanward comes from a transaction or a close that actually happened. We built it for founders, deal teams, and working finance teams, because those are the people who have been carrying the spreadsheet.
The readiness trail
The products, in the order most companies meet them. The trail page covers what each stage asks for.
CapReadi

DealReadi

Evidence over assertion
A readiness score is only as good as the documents behind it. Every item carries where it came from and when it was checked, and an investor can see both.
AI that checks, people who decide
Vanward is AI-native: documents are read and checked automatically, reconciliations are tied out, drafts are offered. A person confirms what stands, and the marks show which is which.
Control stays with the company
You choose what each recipient sees, for how long, and whether they can download it. Hide an item or withdraw a link and the view is gone.
